About the role :
Power BI Business Analysts are responsible for liaising with business stakeholders to understand reporting needs and to work with them to design effective Power BI reports in line with Orica’s Power BI reporting guidelines. Analysts will also be responsible for creation, quality control, testing and deployment of Power BI reports and artefacts.
This role will also be the first point of contact in receiving and triaging user incidents and requests across Power BI and the Azure Data Lake – in some instances will also need to lead remediation activities.
What you will be doing :
Solution Design
Collaborate with Global Process and Data Owners (GPDOs), Report Owners and key users (business Subject Matter Experts -SMEs) to understand business objectives and requirements and translate into a set of defined Business Requirements.
Work with data engineers and SAP Business Analysts to translate business requirements into technical and data requirements (as necessary).
Build Power BI Proof of Concept reports in accordance with Orica’s Power BI reporting guidelines and the report Business Requirements.
Build, test and deploy Power BI reports in accordance with Orica’s Power BI reporting guidelines and the report Business Requirements.
Develop and maintain the artefacts that define the proposed Power BI solution, and data feeds.
Collaborate with leads and architects from adjacent areas (cyber security, applications, enterprise, data, etc.) to ensure feasibility and robustness of solutions.
Support
Provide operational support to users in a timely and effective manner to assist users in understanding the outputs and functionality of Power BI reports.
Triage incoming incidents and requests from users for deployed reports. Then manage to resolution including the coordination of Power BI Developers, data engineers and SAP Business Analysts, as well as resources from, cyber security, applications, enterprise.
Ensure issues or status updates are accurately communicated to business users and IT management.
Manage support escalations.
Perform root cause analysis, post incident reviews and business impact validation for requests and incidents.
Follow IT principles, guidelines, and processes.
Update and maintain the artefacts that define the proposed Power BI solution, and data feeds.
IT Design Governance :
Accountable for ensuring all changes to systems within area of responsibility adhere to quality requirements, processes and required standards.
Contribute to the IT strategy, roadmap, and architecture design for area of responsibility.
Oversight of project activities impacting systems within area of responsibility and delivery of projects as required.
Review proposed changes to the design and blueprints for area of responsibility ensuring compliance to Orica standards.
Release & Lifecycle Management
Responsible for supporting regular product releases and upgrades to area of responsibility with the operational teams and support vendors.
Review vendor notifications, coordinate and perform impact assessments, provide updates and recommendations to GPDO’s and key business stakeholders on impact and recommendations for optional enhancements.
Ensure Orica's IT Assets are lifecycle managed for software applications within area of responsibility.
Stakeholder Engagement
Engagement with key business stakeholders, GPDO’s and IT to support solutions.
Engagement with Application leads, engineers, and operational staff to ensure alignment across functional areas.
Where requested, collaborate with the Infrastructure teams to identify any interdependencies and/or application development needs to support infrastructure delivery
What you will bring :
5+ years experience in working in a business facing role, in complex global environment, supporting Power BI.
3+ years experience in developing and deploying Power BI reports in complex global environment.
Familiarity with data extraction and transformation techniques.
Proficiency in leading and facilitating workshops and executive meetings .
Strong customer engagement and relationship building skills.
Hands-on data Power BI experience, sourcing data from SAP.
Experience using Agile Oriented approach to analytics.
Ability to understand and interpret complex business requirements and effectively translate into solutions.
Demonstrated problem solving and remediation skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with an ability to communicate to technical and non-technical audiences.
Initiative to anticipate situations and problems and ability to advise on appropriate workarounds and solutions.
